Basketball Court Building Guide – Part 2

In Part 1 of our Basketball Court Building Guide we looked at the early planning stages of installing a basketball court and the various playing surfaces. In this article, we’ll examine the different size options for your basketball court. The size you choose to make your court will depend on the amount of available space and desired playing experience.

Half Court

Not quite sure if you need a full-court? Half-courts require less space, digging, surfacing, and one less
basketball goal. They’re a nice addition without losing the space taken up by a full-court.

Half Court (Narrow)

A modified half-court still has all the core dimensions of the ‘key’ and ‘paint’ areas, but with shorter
sizing to the half-court line and sidelines. Modified half-courts are great for fitting in smaller spaces.

Full-Court

If you’re ready for the real thing, go for a full-court! Gain authentic play from baseline to baseline. A
great addition if the neighborhood children tend to gather at your home. A full-court provides real play
but also two separate hoops for big and little children to play separately if needed.

Full-Court (Narrow & Short)

Full-courts are great, but you can also cut corners on the size without affecting the play of the game.
It’s typical to shorten the very middle of the court (even taking out the jump circle) as well as the sides
of the court.
