Pass and Flare Mid-Range Jump Shot (Individual): Goalrilla G Trainer Basketball Drill

This basketball drill, which incorporates the Goalrilla G Trainer, is going to focus on a quick flare pass, v-cut step and creating an open space for a mid range jump shot. The Goalrilla G Trainer will be positioned at the top of the key (facing either wing of the court). Players will begin on either block (below the basketball hoop) and will dribble up the free throw lane, towards the G Trainer. Once they reach the Goalrilla G Trainer, a quick chest pass will be delivered and players will make a small v-cut movement out away from the G Trainer. Upon receiving the pass back from the Trainer, the player will either stop and pop up for the mid range jump shot or will stop, catch the pass (with both feet planted) and will dribble towards the elbow for a mid range jump shot.

Working with the Goalrilla G Trainer, players are not only going to work on the flare spin away from the trainer to receive the pass, they are also going to work on creating space to take the open jump shot. Creating space with this drill either comes from delivering a more powerful pass and cutting away quickly towards the elbow for the mid range jump shot or will come from delivering the pass, planting the feet and then taking a single dribble to free up some space for the open jump shot. By performing this basketball drill, players will work on properly planting their feet, which will allow them to perform a single dribble move. This will create room for the open jump shot. With proper feet positioning, this will eliminate being called for a travel and will allow the player to make for a more comfortable jump shot.

To increase the intensity of this drill, coaches can add a defender. The added pressure will simulate live game action and will force the offensive player to focus on finding a way to deliver the pass effectively. By using proper form, players will master flaring their body away from the pass. This will create room to receive the pass and permit them to spot up for the mid range jump shot.

When using the Goalrilla G Trainer for the basketball drill, it should be placed on both wings. This allows players to focus on delivery, receipt and the mid range jump shot. Regardless of the situation, this basketball drill will give players three different options during a game.

Because of its versatility, the Goalrilla G Trainer is the perfect basketball training tool for any player or coach. With just this one piece of equipment, players can perform hundreds of basketball drills that are sure to improve their game.
