Basketball Training Tip For Youths’: The Classic Basketball Two-Step

When watching youngsters play basketball, have you ever noticed players who do only one of two things? They are either running – or standing. It’s like stop and go, stop and go and then, for something new, go and stop.

Do the two-step

A good way to improve that scenario is to teach them to two-step – no, not the dance, although that might really confuse the defense! (you’ll have to keep that one in your back pocket – think Glee!)

No, the two-step I refer to is to take two steps in the opposite direction the player intends to go and then cut back in the intended direction.

If the passer fake-passes toward the receiver who then does the two-step, the defense is momentarily frozen while trying to get a handle on where the passer really is passing the ball. And we all know it only takes a moment to break into a drive down the court for a goal.

In order for youngsters to learn to take the two-step it takes a LOT of practice. But, isn’t that what practice is for – to learn form and technique?

Start teaching form at a young age

One of the best ways for youngsters to excel at a sport is to start early. The earlier you can teach good form and technique, the more natural and automatic it becomes for the player.

Goalrilla Basketball Goals are a great piece of equipment for families to have to do that. The Basketball Goal Store can answer all the questions you have about installing and using a Goalrilla Basketball Hoop for all ages – just visit or call us at (800) 689-0281.

The Goalrilla Basketball Hoop is adjustable from 7.5-feet to 10-feet so a youngster can learn proper form instead of struggling and doing whatever it takes to make a basket with a 10-foot goal. They probably can’t even see the shooting square or have any chance of hitting it from such an angle.

Even though the hoop can be adjusted to 7.5-feet, it is still regulation size so the “feel” can develop as well as the form. It’s a win-win. And if children feel successful, they continue to be interested and dedicated and well, good at it!

So, introduce your child to a Goalrilla Basketball Hoop at your house. Have some fun in good form.

They’ll like the two-step, because we all know there’s nothing more exhilarating for a kid than faking out mom or dad!
